Leading with North Dakota Values First
It’s an honor to serve as your State Senator for downtown and north Fargo.
After more than a decade of representing our community in the North Dakota House, I’m proud to continue that work in the Senate—bringing a steady, pragmatic voice to Bismarck during a time of real challenges and deepening political division.
While some lawmakers choose to focus on culture wars and distractions, I remain committed to the issues that truly impact our daily lives: building safe and welcoming communities, expanding access to affordable housing and healthcare, supporting working families with better childcare options, and ensuring every North Dakotan has the opportunity to thrive.
As always, I’m here to listen, to serve, and to work toward real solutions.
Priorities for Progress
Senator Boschee believes public service should be focused on practical solutions that improve people’s lives. Here are a few of the priorities he continues to advocate for in Bismarck:
-
We all deserve the opportunity to live in safe communities, regardless of the size of the town we call home. Law enforcement, judges an states attorneys continue to tell us that most of the people that interact within our criminal justice system are living with an addiction or behavioral health issue. Through stronger investments in systems that help identify these issues within our family, friends and neighbors, we can save money by helping North Dakotans be healthier and prevent them from being a part of the criminal justice system sooner.
-
Access to safe and affordable childcare is not a new issue to most North Dakotans. I have been an advocate for increasing state resources to support working families, childcare providers and their employees since first elected in 2012. During the 2023 legislative session, I worked with a coalition of parents, childcare providers and advocates to advocate for using our state’s surplus to help increase wages for childcare employees. Childcare providers throughout the state have the capacity for more children, they need the state’s support in retaining and recruiting qualified staff through stronger wages and benefits.
-
Whether you rent, are looking to purchase your first home or are trying to stay in your current home, rising costs are impacting housing affordability. As a real estate professional, I introduced HCR 3030 in the 2023 legislative session, which led to the interim Government Services Committee studying the issue of affordable housing and homelessness in our state. This has provided those experiencing housing issues, advocates and city/county leaders to provide input to statewide solutions.
-
A growing number of Republican legislators are focusing on extreme policies that take away your basic freedoms and ability to raise your family as you see best. Whether it’s telling your kids what books they can read, forcing teachers to not be able to teach fact-based curriculum, restricting how healthcare professionals can care for you or not allowing you to vote in a manner that best works for you, these policies are meant to control thoughts, limit free speech and further divide our communities. I will continue to be a voice of reason and push back on these proposals privately and publicly to make sure our North Dakota values of independence, freedom and opportunity for all are not infringed upon.
Meet Josh
Senator Josh Boschee was first elected to the ND House of Representatives in 2012 where he served for 12 years before being elected to the North Dakota Senate in 2024. Josh spent most of 2018 running to be North Dakota’s 15th Secretary of State. While he wasn’t elected, it provided him the opportunity to learn more about the diverse communities, industries and residents of our great state. Josh served three legislative sessions as the House Democratic-NPL Leader and is currently the Senate Democratic-NPL Assistant Leader.
Josh serves on several committees in the Senate including the Education Committee, Workforce Development Committee, Employee Benefits Committee, Budget Section and Legislative Management. While in the House of Representatives, he served on the House Industry, Business and Labor Committee and the House Agriculture Committee. As one of the caucus leaders, he spends most of his time on state budget related issues, supporting the priorities of the Democratic-NPL caucus and partnering with other legislative leaders and the Governor to pass policies that improve opportunities for North Dakotans.
When he’s not representing his north Fargo constituents in Bismarck, Josh serves as the Broker for Real Broker, LLC, leading a team of over 120 real estate agents and support professionals in North Dakota and NW Minnesota. Before he jumped into real estate, Josh worked in Student Affairs for ten years at NDSU and MSUM, where he found his passion for helping people establish, implement and achieve their goals.
An avid fan of everything downtown Fargo, in his free time, you can find Josh enjoying the food, sounds and life along Broadway. A veteran of many FM area nonprofit boards, he currently serves on the NDSU College of Arts and Sciences Board of Directors.
