Born and raised in Minot, ND, I graduated from Bishop Ryan High School and attended North Dakota State University where I received a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. My involvement in Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, NDSU Student Government and the COAR Team introduced me to a career in higher education. I have ten years of experience working with students, faculty and staff at NDSU and Minnesota State University Moorhead. While currently on hiatus from higher education I am a Realtor with Hatch Realty where I serve as the Sales Manager of our growing business.
I was elected to represent District 44 in the ND House of Representatives in 2012. During my first term, I have served on the House Industry, Business and Labor Committee, the House Agriculture Committee, Administrative Rules Committee, Interim Government Finance Committee and Interim Economic Impact Committee. The diversity of the policies discussed in these committees has allowed me to become well versed in the various business sectors throughout the state, especially in the financing of our state government. In 2014, my Democratic-NPL colleagues elected me to serve as Co-Chair of the House Dem-NPL Caucus with my good friend, Representative Ben Hanson. Also during my first term, the following organizations have ranked me very high in supporting common sense legislation that benefits our citizens and our diversifying economy.
- ND Association of Realtors – 100%
- ND Women’s Network – 100%
- ND AFL-CIO – 100%
- ND Human Rights Coalition – 100%
- ND United – 92%
- ND Council of Educational Leaders – 88%
- ND Greater Chamber of Commerce – 72%
When not serving in Bismarck or helping people buy and sell homes, I remain active in a number of local organizations. Currently, I serve as the President of the Fargo-Moorhead Coalition for Homeless Persons and I serve on the Board of Directors of the Fargo Theatre and the Board of Directors of CAWS North Dakota. ND Economic Security and Prosperity Alliance and as Chair for the annual Fargo-Moorhead Pride celebration. As an Associate member of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, I participated in the United Nations Commission for Social Development for two weeks in New York City.
I have also volunteered locally with Special Olympics, the American Red Cross, the Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, the ALS Association of Minnesota/North Dakota/South Dakota Chapter, New Generation North Dakota and Gladys Ray Shelter & Drop-In Center. My involvement in these organizations allows me to build relationships with individuals, employers, community groups, faith-based organizations and service providers that inform me of some of the issues we face locally and throughout the state.
Additionally, I have been honored by the following organizations for my commitment to improving our state:
- Courage Award, Cass County Democratic-NPL Women Plus (2015)
- Exemplary Leadership Award, Planned Parenthood MN, ND, SD (2014)
- The Arc of Justice Award, ND Human Rights Coalition (2013)
- ND Humane Legislator of the Year, ND Humane Society of the US (2013)
- 20 Under 40: Making Their Mark, The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead (2008)
As an active member of our community, I am inspired by the individual and collective contributions each one of us makes so our families, friends and neighbors have the opportunity to live, learn, work and play in a community that respects all individuals and families. While we continue to make progress to ensure that all people in our community have food, shelter, access to healthcare and education, and meaningful employment, there is work that still needs to be done. I look forward to continue serving the people of north Fargo as their representative in Bismarck.
